DBN Wellbeing Awareness

We have approached some of our members to help promote an overall awareness for the wide-ranging aspects of wellbeing, including social, physical, emotional, community and environmental wellbeing. Something never before so important in these challenging times of ours.

Throughout the year we will be sharing stories, advice, hints and tips to promote wellbeing awareness within our business community.  We have also organised many smaller face to face networking events which we hope will begin the transition from being in lockdown to face to face networking again.

Carrie Dennison of Crafts for Wellbeing

Carrie Dennison of Crafts for Wellbeing has been teaching art and craft workshops since the early 2000s. Since 2014 she has been working weekly with a local social prescribing service, teaching art and craft workshops with wellbeing in mind. Carrie also hosts regular art and craft workshops in her own studio, just outside Stanley, which anyone is welcome to join in with.

Learning a new skill can help to engage the flow state, where you are immersed in and focused on an activity or subject. Within that state, feelings of anxiety and stress can melt away. The achievement of creating something new can also lead to feelings of fulfilment, happiness and motivation.

In this way, crafting workshops can help to improve your wellbeing, as well as teach you new skills, improve hand-eye co-ordination, keep your brain active, explore your creativity, spark new ideas and help you to meet new people.

Crafts for Wellbeing can also help companies to deliver a sense of wellbeing to their staff. Not only can craft sessions help to reduce stress, they also help to bond staff members, activate their creativity to solve problems in the workplace and help to relieve workplace tension. Craft workshops are also a great way to reward staff for their hard work.
